2009-2010 Fulbright Scholar Program
The Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to announce the 2009-2010 Fulbright Scholar Program. The Program offers fellowship opportunities to lecture and/or conduct research at a U.S. institution. Fellowships are awarded competitively to candidates who best and most clearly demonstrate how the Fulbright experience will enhance their ability to have a positive impact at their home institution and on Albanian society. The Fulbright Scholar Program is a non-degree program.

Duration of Grant
The length of a fellowship award is determined based on scholarly objectives and generally ranges from three-six months at a university or research institution in the United States. Fellows are not permitted to take family members to the United States. Fellows are required to return to Albania for at least two (2) years at the conclusion of their fellowship.
Financial Provisions
The Fulbright Fellowship provides tuition, monthly maintenance allowance, a book and supplies allowance, and round-trip international travel to the host institution. The Fulbright Grant is not renewable.
Eligibility Requirements
• Ph.D./ Master Degree or equivalent professional training or experience;
• Minimum of five years' lecturing or research experience in the proposed field;
• Demonstrated research ability;
• Suitable level of English proficiency (550 or more on the TOEFL);
• Albanian citizenship.
Individuals already registered in study programs in the United States, employed in the United States, married to American citizens, or who have applied to emigrate or have sought asylum in another country are not eligible to apply.

Application forms for the Fulbright Scholar Program, can be downloaded from this web site here. They are also available from the American Corner at the National Library in Tirana; and Student Educational Advising Centers at the University of Shkodra and University of Elbasan.

Completed applications must be returned to the American Corner at the National Library in Tirana by Friday, June 13, 2006. The Institutional TOEFL test will be administered by U.S. Embassy personnel. We strongly encourage all the applicants to take the official internet-based TOEFL at one of these three institutions: Shkolla "Drita e Diturise," The Lincoln Center, or the Harry T. Fultz Institute. Otherwise, candidates without valid official TOEFL scores must sign up for the Institutional TOEFL at a cost of 35 USD upon delivery of application.
