U.S. Coast Guard Conducts Seminar on Port Security (Nov. 18, 2005)
A U.S. Coast Guard International Training Team, from Yorktown Virginia, completed today a Port Physical Security/Port Vulnerability Assessment Course with Albanian Port, Navy, Customs, and Police officers from Durrës. The week long course is part of U.S. Department of Homeland Security efforts to develop and enhance international partnerships to create a more secure global community. The training was coordinated through the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC), and International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP).
The course will help to better protect the shipping industry by facilitating security improvements in Durrës and throughout Albania.
The Durrës hosts worked jointly with the U.S. Coast Guard personnel to evaluate overall compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security code, an international agreement. The U.S. Coast Guard International Port Security Program focuses on improving the security of vessels and port facilities that transport, stow, and handle cargo.
