Congresswoman Deborah Pryce Issues Statement Clarification on Human Trafficking in Albania (April 13, 2005)

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Deborah Pryce today issued the following statement to clarify previous accounts:

In last week’s Albanian Daily News, the Congresswoman was quoted as saying "It is our impression that Albania has turned from a source country of human trafficking to a transit country." The heading then read "US Delegation: Albania No Longer a Source Country for Human Trafficking."

"It’s true that Albania does exist as a transit country for traffickers, and yes, they are making strides to tackle the problem of trafficking in their country. However, Albania is still a source country for human trafficking. The U.S. has put Albania on Tier 2 for a reason, and though they have made significant efforts in the form of prevention and identification of victims there is still more work to be done to curb the problem," said Pryce.
