Albanian Local Government Elections
February 15, 2007
U.S. Embassy Tirana would like to remind American citizens in Albania that Local Government Elections will take place on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Many election-related gatherings are scheduled to take place in the pre-election period, involving large crowds and increased vehicular traffic.
We wish to remind American citizens that even public gatherings and demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid these areas if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any such areas.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, Travel Warnings, and health-information resources can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
In the event of an emergency or if more information is needed, U.S. Embassy Tirana can be contacted at +355-(0)4-224-7285/89. Additional information on Embassy services can be found at http://albania.usembassy.gov/
