Small Grants Program FAQ
Who can apply for grants?
Those Albanian non-governmental organizations with no affiliation to religious or political parties are eligible to apply. American organizations and individuals are not eligible for grants under this program. Grants may not fund the travel of American citizens from the U.S. to Albania.
When is the application deadline?
Democracy Commission which reviews the proposals, gathers two or three times during the year.

What is the budget limit for one application?
The ceiling amount for an individual grant is 24,000 USD. The project proposal must include a detailed, itemized budget for all costs and activities.
How long does it take for the grantee to receive the funds?
It usually takes 3-4 months for projects to be reviewed by the U.S. Embassy Democracy Commission and then approved by the Department of State in Washington. Upon approval of the project, the grant is signed by the U.S. Embassy Grants Officer and the grantee. Once the grant is signed, it usually takes one month for the first installment of funds to be disbursed. Funds will only be made via bank transfer to a separate bank account maintained by the organization. The check will be in U.S. dollars.
What duties does the grantee have upon completion of the project?
All grantees must present a narrative report when the project is completed, explaining how the program achieved its goal/s. A detailed financial report, and copies of the receipts, which show how the awarded sum was spent must also be submitted.
How many times can one organization apply?
Generally, there is no limit. Grants are made on a one-time basis and if two grants are awarded to one recipient they should be for different projects.
