U.S. Embassy Organizes Third Blood Donation (June 11, 2008)
To celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) 2008 and its theme of "Giving Blood Regularly," the U.S. Embassy is holding its third blood drive today, June 11.
In support of efforts by the International Red Cross, Red Crescent and World Health Organization, 30 individuals participated in the last Embassy blood drive in December 2007 and 40 in August 2007. Twenty people are registered to donate blood in today’s activities and we would extend an invitation to anyone else who would like to give blood today. The purpose of this endeavor is to assist the Albanian National Blood Bank in its goal of achieving 100% voluntary blood by 2010.
WBDD is designed to thank volunteers who donate blood without any reward, except the knowledge that they are saving lives in their community. With that, we would like to thank these volunteers who are giving their time today and would like to remind them of WBDD’s new slogan - "Once is not enough."
