Chairman of U.S. Commission for the Preservation of American Heritage Abroad and Albanian Parliament Speaker Discuss Holocaust and the Role of Albanians (January 27, 2008)
Chairman of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of American Heritage Abroad Warren Miller met Albanian Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli. Miller and Topalli talked about the importance of commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day and the Albanians’ unique courage in saving Jews found in Albania during WWII.
Miller said “Albanians are well-versed in values of humanity.” He expressed appreciation for the Albanian authorities’ initiative to hold for the first time official ceremonies to commemorate Holocaust, adding “The world takes great comfort in this important gesture.”
Miller is visiting Albania at the invitation of the Albanian authorities to participate in the first ever official activities to commemorate Holocaust and the Albanians’ role in rescuing Jews in the face of Nazi persecution.
